Modi and Merkel reaffirm commitment to Indo-German cooperation on Quality Infrastructure

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited India from 31 October to 1 November 2019 for the 5th Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations. Chancellor Merkel was accompanied by the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, as well as further delegates and industry representatives.

India gives Industry 4.0 standardisation a push

In September 2019, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) established a new technical committee dedicated to standardisation for smart manufacturing, or Industry 4.0. The new committee is part of the Electronics and Information Technology Department (LTD) of BIS and mirrors the Systems Committee (SyC) on smart manufacturing at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Workshops on IT-Security and Functional Safety in Kassel
The Sino-German Technical Expert Groups “IT-Security” and “Functional Safety” came together in Kassel to discuss recent developments regarding security and safety standards in Germany and China. They also revised the drafts of two white papers which are dedicated to these topics.

Cooperation on Standards for Safe and Clean Cars: GPQI at IAA India Day

Government and industry representatives from Germany and India discussed their partnership in the automotive sector during the India Day at the International Automotive Exhibition (IAA) on 13 September 2019 in Frankfurt. Torge Wolters from the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI) gave a presentation on the recent study "Automotive and Component Trade with India: Insights on standards, homologation, and imports".

Enhancing the Role of Standards Developing Organisations in India

To ensure a coordinated and harmonised formulation of standards, Standards Developing Organisations (SDOs) shall play a stronger role in India’s standardisation system in the future. Both the Indian National Strategy for Standardization (INSS) of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) regard this as an important step in the advancement of the Indian quality infrastructure system.

India and Germany discuss new topics for cooperation on standardisation

The first Indo-German Standardisation Forum took place in New Delhi on 12 July 2019. More than 60 representatives from government and industry as well as standardisation experts came together at this interactive event to discuss India’s and Germany’s approaches and priorities in standardisation.
