Mexico
Over the past decades, Mexico’s economy has grown massively. Today, Mexico is the world’s 12th largest industrial nation and Germany’s most important trade partner in Latin America. In 2017, the trade volume between both countries amounted to around 20 billion euros. Recently, Mexico has become the seventh largest automotive producer worldwide. Besides the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as transport and logistics are important trading sectors for both Mexico and Germany. Furthermore, Mexican IT services are in high demand in Germany.
The bilateral cooperation between Germany and Mexico within the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI) was officially launched in April 2018 when the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Secretaría de Economía) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) signed a Joint Declaration of Intent for the bilateral dialogue on quality infrastructure at the Hannover Messe. Both sides share a strong interest in working towards harmonized quality infrastructures, fair market access and production conditions and well-balanced regulatory conditions.
